Powering Iowa’s Future is a 501(c)(4) working to educate Iowans on energy issues across the state and nation. Our mission is to mobilize Iowans to advocate on the important energy issues facing Iowa’s families and businesses.
The key issues we focus on are growing economic opportunity, supporting clean energy for the future, expanding rural development, growing economic opportunity, ensuring affordable services, and supporting the next generation. We utilize our growing coalition of everyday Iowans to fight for a better energy future.
-
In 2021, according to the American Clean Power Association, more than 5,000 Iowans made up the clean energy workforce.
-
An American Clean Power Association study found as of 2021, Iowa ranked 1st in the nation for share of electricity produced by wind, solar, and energy storage power plants. And the state ranks 3rd for the amount of MW in operation for wind, solar, and energy storage capacity.
-
Wind, solar, and energy storage projects invested $23 billion in Iowa.
-
Ethanol is also a big part of Iowa’s energy portfolio — 57% or 1.5 billion bushels of Iowa corn goes to ethanol production.
- The latest Renewable Fuels Association study found that the renewable fuels industry (including biodiesel) supports around 46,000 jobs in Iowa, and accounts for over $5 billion of Iowa’s GDP.
The impact of smart energy policy in Iowa spans from economic expansion and job creation to a positive environmental impact and cleaner future. As Iowa continues to forge forward as a national leader on renewables, we must continue to support causes that encourage the growth of our communities.
